  • R: Change the fields' (slots') values of the class assigning a value to some other field

    - by Max Li
    Assgning a value to one field, how can I make the other fields changing. Consider the following R5 class C<-setRefClass("C", fields=list(a="numeric",b="numeric") , methods=list( seta = function(x){ a<<-x b<<-x+10 cat("The change took place!") } ) # end of the methods list ) # end of the class Now create the instance of the class c<-C$new() This command c$seta(10) will result in that c$a is 10 and c$b is 20. So it actually works, however, I want to achieve this result by the command c$a<-10 (i.e. after that I want c$b to be equal to 20 as defined in the class in the logic of seta() function) How can I do it?

  • Why does the assignment operator return a value and not a reference?

    - by Nick Lowman
    I saw the example below explained on this site and thought both answers would be 20 and not the 10 that is returned. He wrote that both the comma and assignment returns a value, not a reference. I don't quite understand what that means. I understand it in relation to passing variables into functions or methods i.e primitive types are passed in by value and objects by reference but I'm not sure how it applies in this case. I also understand about context and the value of 'this' (after help from stackoverflow) but I thought in both cases I would still be invoking it as a method, foo.bar() which would mean foo is the context but it seems both result in a function call bar(). Why is that and what does it all mean? var x = 10; var foo = { x: 20, bar: function () {return this.x;} }; (foo.bar = foo.bar)();//returns 10 (foo.bar, foo.bar)();//returns 10

  • CSS Not Centering Container

    - by user269799
    I have a container div. Width: 80%, margin-left: 10% and margin-right 10%. The problem is, the container is displaying to the left in all the browsers I check. If I change the value of margin-left to 20%, it looks ok. I will supply code if necessary but is there anything obviously wrong here? Isn't 80 with a margin of 10 on each side correct to center a div? GF

  • merging in python

    - by Abruzzo Forte e Gentile
    Hi all I have the following 4 arrays ( grouped in 2 groups ) that I would like to merge in ascending order by the keys array. I can use also dictionaries as structure if it is easier. Has python any command or something to make this quickly possible? Regards MN # group 1 [7, 2, 3, 5] #keys [10,11,12,26] #values [0, 4] #keys [20, 33] #values # I would like to have [ 0, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 ] # ordered keys [20, 11,12,33,26,33] # associated values

  • why can't I call methods on a for-yield expression?

    - by 1984isnotamanual
    Say I have some scala code like this: // outputs 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100 println( squares ) def squares = { val s = for ( count <- 1 to 10 ) yield { count * count } s.mkString(", "); } Why do I have to use the temporary val s? I tried this: def squares = for ( count <- 1 to 10 ) yield { count * count }.mkString(", ") That fails to compile with this error message: error: value mkString is not a member of Int def squares = for ( count <- 1 to 10 ) yield { count * count }.mkString(", ") Shouldn't mkString be called on the collection returned by the for loop?

  • Counting number of values between interval

    - by calccrypto
    Is there any efficient way in python to count the times an array of numbers is between certain intervals? the number of intervals i will be using may get quite large like: mylist = [4,4,1,18,2,15,6,14,2,16,2,17,12,3,12,4,15,5,17] some function(mylist, startpoints): # startpoints = [0,10,20] count values in range [0,9] count values in range [10-19] output = [9,10]

  • SQL more elegant combination of boolean checks possible?

    - by Matze
    Call me pedantic but is there a more elegant way to combine all those checks? SELECT * FROM [TABLE1] WHERE [path] = 'RECEIVE' AND [src_ip] NOT LIKE '10.48.20.10' AND [src_ip] NOT LIKE '0.%' AND [src_ip] NOT LIKE '127.%' ORDER BY [date],[time] DESC; To something like this: SELECT * FROM [TABLE1] WHERE [path] = 'RECEIVE' AND [src_ip] NOT LIKE IN ('10.48.20.10','0.%','127.%', .... ) ORDER BY [date],[time] DESC;

  • How can I decrease time opening myisam table in an "union all" of the same table??

    - by parm.95
    I have a myisam table with 2.5M rows, I use an union all to get my results as following: (SELECT t.id FROM t WHERE type=1 LIMIT 10) UNION ALL (SELECT t.id FROM t WHERE type=2 LIMIT 10) ... UNION ALL (SELECT t.id FROM t WHERE type=25 LIMIT 10) the time to opening the table t is about 6ms. With a single request: SELECT t.id FROM t WHERE type=1 LIMIT 10 the time is about 1ms. What I don't understand is why mysql spend more time to the same table in union all. It should recognize that is the same table and so just opening at the first union. Does anybody can help me to decrease the time for opening table in a "union all"? Thanks in advance!

  • ruby sortby 3rd element in a multidimential array npot working properly

    - by Steven
    Hi, I'm using ruby to sort an array where each element in the array is another array. I have this: Data = Data.SortBy { |Info| info[3] } example data in this column: 3.1 2 5.65 -1 0.4 -9.43 -10.87 -2.3 It should sort this into: 5.65 3.1 2 0.4 -1 -2.3 -9.43 -10.87 But it comes out like this: 5.65 3.1 2 0.4 -1 -10.87 -2.3 -9.43 It's only comparing the first char of the float... not the whole number?

  • Fetching Cassandra row keys

    - by knorv
    Assume a Cassandra datastore with 20 rows, with row keys named "r1" .. "r20". Questions: How do I fetch the row keys of the first ten rows (r1 to r10)? How do I fetch the row keys of the next ten rows (r11 to r20)? I'm looking for the Cassandra analogy to: SELECT row_key FROM table LIMIT 0, 10; SELECT row_key FROM table LIMIT 10, 10;

    Say that I have a table with one column named CustomerId. The example of the instance of this table is : CustomerId 14 12 11 204 14 204 I want to write a query that counts the number of occurences of customer IDs. At the end, I would like to have a result like this : CustomerId NumberOfOccurences 14 2 12 1 11 1 204 2 14 1 I cannot think of a way to do this.

  • Similar code detector

    - by Let_Me_Be
    I'm search for a tool that could compare source codes for similarity. We have a very trivial system right now that has huge amount of false positives and the real positives can easily get buried in them. My requirements are: reasonably small amount of false positives good detection rate (yeah these are going against each other) ideally with a more complex output than just a single value usable for C (C99) and C++ (C++03 and optimally C++11) still maintained usable for comparing two source files against each other usable in non-interactive mode EDIT: To avoid confusion, the following two code snippets are identical and should be detected as such: for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { bla; } int i; while (i < 10) { bla; i++; } The same here: int x = 10; y = x + 5; int a = 10; y = a + 5;

  • Converting between square and rectangular pixel co-ordinates

    - by FlyboyUtah
    I'm new at using transforms and this type of math, and would appreciate some direction solving my coding problem. I'm writing in XCode for the iphone, and am working with CGraphics. Problem: In Xcode, I want to draw curves, lines and so on it's screen of of square pixels. Then convert those points, as close as possible, into non-square pixel sysem. For example if the original coordinate system is 500 x 500 pixels that are displayed on square screen of 10 by 10 inchs I draw a round circle with the circle formula. It looks round, and all is well. Now, I draw the same circle on a second 10 x 10 inch screen that is 850 pixels by 500 pixels. Without changing the coordinates, the same circle formual displays something that looks like an egg. How can I draw the circle on the second screen in a different coordinate system? And in addition, I need to access the set of points x,y system individually. s

  • How do I reset my pointer to a specific array location?

    - by ohtanya
    I am a brand new programming student, so please forgive my ignorance. My assignment states: Write a program that declares an array of 10 integers. Write a loop that accepts 10 values from the keyboard and write another loop that displays the 10 values. Do not use any subscripts within the two loops; use pointers only. Here is my code: #include "stdafx.h" #include <iostream> using namespace std; int main() { const int NUM = 10; int values[NUM]; int *p = &values[0]; int x; for(x = 0; x < NUM; ++x, ++p) { cout << "Enter a value: "; cin >> *p; } for(x = 0; x < NUM; ++x, ++p) { cout << *p << " "; } return 0; } I think I know where my problem is. After my first loop, my pointer is at values[10], but I need to get it back to values[0] to display them. How can I do that?

  • variable scope in statement blocks

    - by fearofawhackplanet
    for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { Foo(); } int i = 10; // error, 'i' already exists ---------------------------------------- for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { Foo(); } i = 10; // error, 'i' doesn't exist By my understanding of scope, the first example should be fine. The fact neither of them are allowed seems even more odd. Surely 'i' is either in scope or not. Is there something non-obvious about scope I don't understand which means the compiler genuinely can't resolve this? Or is just a case of nanny-state compilerism?

  • SQL most popular

    - by Brae
    I have a mysql table with items in relation to their order. CREATE DATABASE IF NOT EXISTS `sqltest`; USE `sqltest`; DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `testdata`; CREATE TABLE `testdata` ( `orderID` varchar(10) DEFAULT NULL, `itemID` varchar(10) DEFAULT NULL, `qtyOrdered` int(10) DEFAULT NULL, `sellingPrice` decimal(10,2) DEFAULT NULL ) INSERT INTO `testdata`(`orderID`,`itemID`,`qtyOrdered`,`sellingPrice`) values ('1','a',1,'7.00'),('1','b',2,'8.00'),('1','c',3,'3.00'),('2','a',1,'7.00'),('2','c',4,'3.00'); Intended Result: A = (1+1)2 B = 2 C = (2+4)6 <- most popular How do I add up all the qty's for each item and result the highest one? It should be fairly strait forward but I'm new to SQL and I can't work this one out :S Solution needs to be mysql and or php. I guess there needs to be some sort of temporary tally variable for each item ID, but that seems like it could get messy with too many items.

  • Pi help with Php (mass looping)

    - by Pieman
    My primary question is: Is this alot of loops? while ($decimals < 50000 and $remainder != "0") { $number = floor($remainder/$currentdivider); //Always round down! 10/3 =3, 10/7 = 1 $remainder = $remainder%$currentdivider; // 10%3 =1, 10%1 $thisnumber = $thisnumber . $number; $remainder = $remainder . 0; //10 $decimals += 1; } Or could I fit more into it? -without the server crashing/lagging. I'm just wondering, Also is there a more effiecent way of doing the above? (e.g. finidng out that 1/3 = 0.3 to 50,000 decimals.) Finally: I'm doing this for a pi formulae the (1 - 1/3 + 1/5 - 1/7 etc.) one, And i'm wondering if there is a better one. (In php) I have found one that finds pi to 2000 in 4 seconds. But thats not what I want. I want an infinite series that converges closer to Pi so every refresh, users can view it getting closer... see: http://zombiewrath.com/pi.php (Old one) and 'zombiewrath.com/superpi.php' (Newer one) But obv. converging using the above formulae takes ALONG time. Is there any other 'loop' like Pi formulaes (workable in php) that converge faster? Thanks alot...

  • Show the specific field on mysql table based on active date

    - by mrjimoy_05
    Suppose that I have 3 tables: A) Table UsrHeader ----------------- UsrID | UsrName ----------------- 1 | Abc 2 | Bcd B) Table UsrDetail ------------------------------- UsrID | UsrLoc | Date ------------------------------- 1 | LocA | 10 Aug 2012 1 | LocB | 15 Aug 2012 2 | LocA | 10 Aug 2012 C) Table Trx ----------------------------- TrxID | TrxDate | UsrID ----------------------------- 1 | 10 Aug 2012 | 1 2 | 16 Aug 2012 | 1 3 | 11 Aug 2012 | 2 What I want to do is to show the table like: --------------------------------------- TrxID | TrxDate | UsrID | UsrLoc --------------------------------------- 1 | 10 Aug 2012 | 1 | LocA 2 | 16 Aug 2012 | 1 | LocB 3 | 11 Aug 2012 | 2 | LocA Notice that there is one user but different location. That's based on the UsrDetail table that the user on a specified date has moved to another location. So, it should be show the user specific location on that date on every transaction. I have try this code but it is no luck: SELECT trx.TrxID, trx.TrxDate, trx.UsrID, User.UsrName, User.UsrLoc FROM trx INNER JOIN ( SELECT UsrHeader.UsrID, UsrHeader.UsrName, UserDetail.UsrLoc FROM UsrHeader INNER JOIN ( SELECT UsrDetail.UsrID, UsrDetail.UsrLoc, UsrDetail.Date FROM UsrDetail ) AS UserDetail ON UserDetail.UsrID = UsrHeader.UsrID ) AS User ON User.UsrID = trx.UsrID AND trx.TrxDate >= User.Date How to do that? Thanks..
